For manufacturers
Tell your customers exactly how to say goodbye to your packaging. One mark, every kerbside bin in Aotearoa. Less contamination, fewer rejected loads, clearer shelf.
The marks
Ninety-seven material marks, mapped to the national kerbside standard. Put the one that matches each component on your pack. The mark names the material and the instruction says how to farewell it.
Plastic Packaging
Kirihou Takai
Rigid plastics #1, #2 and #5. Empty and rinse; lids follow their own material.
Glass Packaging
Karāhe Takai
Bottles and jars. Rinse, lid off, into the glass crate.
Soft Plastics
Kirihou Ngohengohe
Wrappers, bags and films. Not kerbside. Direct shoppers to the soft-plastics drop-off.
How to label
Four steps from SKU audit to press-ready artwork.
- 1
Audit each component
List every part of the pack: bottle, lid, label, sleeve, seal. Check each against the NZ kerbside standard. The weakest component sets the mark.
Example: a PET bottle goes kerbside, its PVC sleeve doesn’t. Label each part with its own mark so the shopper separates them.
- 2
Pick the marks
Match each component to its material mark from the archive: one mark per material, with a one-line instruction.
- 3
Download the asset
Press-ready SVG files live in the marks archive. Free to use under the open licence. No approval queue, no fee.
- 4
Place on pack
Minimum 12 mm wide. Solid background: no photography behind it. Clear space equal to the heart height on every side. Keep the mark near the material callout or nutrition panel, where shoppers already look.
Bottle
PET #1 · Rinse and replace cap
Why it matters
Contamination is the single biggest cost for kerbside recyclers. One wrong item can downgrade a whole truckload to landfill. Clear, honest labelling keeps your pack in the recycling stream and your brand on the right side of a customer who genuinely cares. Correct marks don’t just help the planet. They protect your shelf reputation.

Not a certification body.
Love You Bye doesn’t certify products. It’s a free, open visual system mapped to the national kerbside standard. Manufacturers self-assess against the published standard. The mark is a communication tool, not a compliance badge.
